I had a really fun time with a great bunch of students at Cliff College in Derbyshire yesterday.
Here is the PDF from my lectures on evangelism.

In the lecture I presented an alternative to pietistic, dualistic presentations of the gospel. I have written this up in a book called Destiny.

It’d been 18 years since my last U2 gig – I tried to hitch hike with a friend to Paris (we ended up catching a bus…) but we did get to see Velvet Undergound supporiting the great U2 on their ZOOROPA tour on a gorgeous day in the open air.
Last night I witnessed the 360 [...]

Wow!
What a powerful piece of television. I haven’t been so gripped since the first two series of Spooks.
Loved the philosophical challenges of utilitarianism – can you quantify the greatest amount happiness for the most amount of people and therefore sacrifice whatever is necessary to make that happen. Jack and Yanto arguing that when one person [...]

Is this every footballer’s dream, to be worshipped as a celebrity?
The crowds packed in to Estadio Santiago Bernabeu just to catch a glimpse of the 80 million pound signing.
There was rapturous applause, security beating pitch invasions and euphoria as Ronaldo was “unveiled”.
Ronaldo loved it ofcourse.

A while back i produced a list of helpful resources for engaging with the Bible. Well thanks to some generous publisher i have received some new books i wanted to add to the list:
1) Shaped by the Story, Mike Novelli
This is an inspirational book for youthleaders. The author provides both a theological and a practical [...]

The BBC has confirmed that Michael Jackson has died aged 50.
Apparently it was a cardiac arrest.
There were some stellar moments in his career-
I was only listening to ABC and i want you back this week when an 8 year old Jackson fronted the Jackson 5.
Or think about the moonwalk or the invention of the pop [...]

I run a men’s non fiction book group with some of the dads from my sons’ school. I am sure lots of women would love these books too, but I thought it might be interesting to list some of the hits so far in our book group.
Blood River
This is a great book – an adventure [...]

I always wanted to come to Regent. When I was working for IFES I used to send off each Summer for the latest prospectus from Regent and a host of other well known North American seminaries. So it’s a great pleasure to be here teaching.
Things to love about Regent:
1. Vancouver is [...]

Today we had our church away day. We managed to do it for £100 all in.
We hired a village hall rather than a conference centre.
We decided to a single day not a weekend away to make it more accesible for families.
We did the teaching in house rather than pay for a guest speaker.
We had bring [...]

So here it is… a bigger Kindle. Doesn’t seem to be competitvely priced. Why pay a lot of money for this when you can get a nice little net book which will let you read the ebooks and type emails, write on facebook and wordprocess as well. It’s the crazy idea of paying more for [...]

Can’t believe anyone thought this was a good idea.
Flying airforce one – tailed by an F-16 around lower Manhattan. Many office workers were scared and left their buildings thinking it was a 9/11 replay. This went on for half an hour… just for a photo opportunity of the plane in front of the statue of [...]

The resurrection was a key factor in my journey to faith.
Confronted by the unavoidable statistic that 1 out of every 1 people dies – I needed to find some answers as to what happens next. If as Samuel Becket the play right says “we give birth astride the grave” and life is just the short [...]

Is it worth upgrading to a DSI?
Here’s our logic.
1. Our old nintendo DS lite is coming to the end of its life and so trading one in for £75 is a good idea as it’s resale value is well below that.
2. The fun to be had with the camera – with its interactive filters, movement [...]

Don Carson preached on the Good Samaritan at New Word Alive and according to Adrian Warnock he said:
“The Good Samaritan is Jesus himself. He comes to us in our brokeness and despite the fact that people despise him, he is the one who pays the entire tab so we are paid. The real question is [...]

Well the Simpsons have entered the twenty first century, with a new HD friendly title sequence.
It’s hard to mess with a classic but there are some nice touches -
- Otto eating a radioactive piece of metal
- Apu with his octuplets in tow
- Krusty the clown now offering a funeral service
It’s two [...]

Robert Beckford has put together this interesting radio 4 programme on the effects of the internet on religious practice.
Listen carefully you might hear a familiar voice, as I was interviewed for this programme after the Evangelical Alliance published the 10 Blogging commandments.

So it dawned on me this afternoon as i sat in my study snowed in. I may well have lived most of my waking life in front of a computer screen. My kids are definitely screen agers and to entertain themselves this afternoon as they also were snowed in – they decided to make a [...]
