U2 Christmas

thanks to Simon Fogg who put me onto this new U2 video as they cover a classic Christmas Rock and Roll song by Greg Lake.

What do you think he means..

Hallelujah Noel be it Heaven or Hell
The Christmas we get we deserve?

That must have been a hard lyric for Bono to sing when you compare it with Band Aid’s “well tonight thank God it’s them instead of you…”

Christmas Blessings

Interestingly, U2 re-wrote part of the words of the song. It’s was a vaguely anti-Christian song originally, but the U2 version weaves it into a reason *to* believe in Jesus at Christmas.

    The original:

And they told me a fairy story
‘Till I believed in the Israelite
And I believed in Father Christmas
And I looked at the sky with excited eyes
‘Till I woke with a yawn in the first light of dawn
And I saw him and through his disguise

    The U2 version:

And they sold me a fairy story
But I believe in the Israelite
And I believed in Father Christmas
And I looked to the sky with excited eyes
‘Till I woke with a yawn in the first light of dawn
And I saw him and through his disguise

    Subtle, but clever.
