Linkin Park What I’ve Done Lyrics
In this farewell,
There’s no blood,
There’s no alibi.
‘Cause I’ve drawn regret,
From the truth,
Of a thousand lies.
So let mercy come,
And wash away…
What I’ve Done.
I’ll face myself,
To cross out what I’ve become.
Erase myself,
And let go of what I’ve done.
Put to rest,
What you thought of me.
While I clean this slate,
With the hands,
Of uncertainty.
So let mercy come,
And wash away…
What I’ve Done.
I’ll face myself,
To cross out what I’ve become.
Erase myself,
And let go of what I’ve done.
For What I’ve Done
I start again,
And whatever pain may come.
Today this ends,
I’m forgiving what I’ve done.
I’ll face myself,
To cross out what I’ve become.
Erase myself,
And let go of what I’ve done.
What I’ve done.
Forgiving What I’ve Done.
This song plays at the end of the Transformers movie.
A serious song after a bubble gum movie.
A heart cry for forgiveness. Let me know what you think of the video
The songs’ lyrics coupled with the video look like a confession of guilt and a plea for mercy.
It reminds me of the famous letter GK Chesterton wrote to the Time when they asked readers to contribute answers to the question: “what is wrong with the world.” Chesterton’s reply was short:
Dear Sir,
I am.
Yours
G.K. Chesterton
Chesterton was well aware that a fundamental Christian principle is that if we confess our guilt rather than deny it there is a way to be forgiven by God. This is helpfully summed up from an ancient song writer reflecting on some heavy sins: lying, adultery, stealing, murder. He wrote:
1-3Generous in love—God, give grace!
Huge in mercy—wipe out my bad record.
Scrub away my guilt,
soak out my sins in your laundry.
I know how bad I’ve been;
my sins are staring me down.
4-6 You’re the One I’ve violated, and you’ve seen
it all, seen the full extent of my evil.
You have all the facts before you;
whatever you decide about me is fair.
I’ve been out of step with you for a long time,
in the wrong since before I was born.
What you’re after is truth from the inside out.
Enter me, then; conceive a new, true life.
7-15 Soak me in your laundry and I’ll come out clean,
scrub me and I’ll have a snow-white life.
Tune me in to foot-tapping songs,
set these once-broken bones to dancing.
Don’t look too close for blemishes,
give me a clean bill of health.
God, make a fresh start in me “
Psalm 51 (The Message)
I hope Linking Park who have penned their epic version of this ancient song, know the God of mercy they are calling out to.
